Every year hundreds of thousands of
patients in Canada and the United States die from preventable medical
errors. It is the third leading cause of death in both countries.
The problem has been evident to the
healthcare industry and the public for some time. Progress has not.
Many reasons have been advanced as to why the problem continues. It is
time for the excuses to end. This is why patients and families across
Canada and the United States are joining together in a campaign to end the epidemic of medical errors and harm. Our view of what needs to be done is straightforward. It is summed up in three simple words: “JUST STOP IT!”
